Applications are now open for VAA OpenSpaces 2026, the Visual Artists Association's global, artist-led exhibition initiative transforming everyday spaces into vibrant art experiences. Rather than exhibiting within a traditional gallery, participating artists present work in cafés, hotels, shops, libraries, studios, creative hubs, community venues, and other unexpected locations, creating a decentralised international exhibition trail throughout November 2026.
Last year's edition brought together more than 75 artists across cities and communities worldwide, connecting artists with new audiences beyond conventional exhibition spaces. For 2026, the programme returns with an even larger network of partner venues across the UK, Ireland, mainland Europe, and beyond, offering artists opportunities to exhibit in unique and inspiring locations.
Artists may apply with their own venue or request to be matched with one of our participating partner venues, subject to availability. OpenSpaces welcomes artists working across painting, sculpture, photography, printmaking, ceramics, installation, digital art, mixed media, and more.
Participating artists benefit from international promotion through the VAA's interactive digital trail map, dedicated marketing, and inclusion in one of the world's largest artist-led public exhibition initiatives—all while maintaining full creative control over their exhibition.
