We invite proposals from artists, curators, researchers, and collectives interested in exhibiting in our historic School of Art building (est. 1843). Selected exhibitions will occupy the gallery for approximately three weeks (see x3 available time slots below).
We especially welcome applications from individuals and groups from global majority backgrounds.
We are particularly interested in proposals that address one or more of the following:
• Engage with the gallery’s context within a working art school and seek to engage students (including BA Fine Art, BA Art and Design, and Postgraduate programmes)
• Include work by School of Art or BCU graduates
• Engage with BCU’s Arts, Design and Media Archive: BCU Archive Collections
(We recommend arranging a visit to explore the archive in person.)
• Originate from within the University community (artists, curators, or researchers at BCU) — at least one slot will be dedicated to an internal proposal
We look forward to receiving imaginative proposals that contribute meaningfully to our programme and our wider university context.
Gallery specs:
Approx 8x18m, adjustable lighting rig, window blinds
Access:
The gallery is located on the ground floor which is accessed via a lift from the street, and there are accessible toilets on the same level. There is also a gender-neutral toilet located on the basement level.
Budget:
£700 artist/professional fee
£350 production fee
The gallery will also offer some technical install support, technical equipment (to be negotiated), documentation images, security at front desk, invigilation, promotional/printing support, opening event hospitality, and exhibitions insurance.
The available slots are (to include install and deinstall):

2. 03/11 – 21/11/2025
3. 12/01 – 30/01/2025
