The Art Bypass Gallery is now located in a beautifully converted Victorian shop that our research shows us in one of its first incarnations in the late 19th/early 20th century was a hairdressing salon. From 1725 art exhibitions were also held in a room called a Salon Carre in the Louvre and became simply known as the salon. This later gave rise to the generic French term Salon for any large mixed media art exhibition.
So do hit us up with your art works of any medium that explore ‘the Salon’. This could be an exploration of the beauty industry, celebrations or critique of hair and fashion from intersectional, feminist perspectives, consumerism and capitalism as we approach the Christmas season, or simply the tradition of the art salon and salon-style hang and its origins in art curation in the Louvre and the 1660s Royal Academy graduate’s exhibition in Paris. We are always excited to receive submissions that explore different interpretations of the show theme!
Selected artists will be given the opportunity to exhibit for a 2 week show located in Dalston, a vibrant part of London’s cultural scene. The show will be installed by experienced curators, and invitations, press releases, promotion, opening party with cocktails and nibbles (invite only with 2-5 invites per artist dependant on uptake), and by appointment invigilation and curator tours of the space between 12-7pm daily.
Submissions Process: To submit up to 6 art works please visit our submissions page and complete our online submissions form here https://www.wearesweetart.com/opportunities
