TELEPHONE is just like the kids’ game. A message is whispered from one person to another and changes as it is passed. We whisper a message from art form to art form. A message could become a painting, then music, then poetry, then dance. We whisper each finished work of art to multiple artists so the game branches out exponentially.
Our first game was published in 2015, involved 315 artists, and received acclaim in the New York Times, Los Angeles Times, and others. Our second game, published in 2021, featured the original, interconnected work of about 1,000 artists from 488 cities in 73 countries, as well as international press. With this third game, our little team of volunteers and scholars from around the world is being many magnitudes more ambitious.
It's free to play. Works are welcome in any language. This simple game is exquisitely difficult, compelling, and absolutely fun. Any art work of any art form that you create belongs to you and you own the rights (physical and digital) to what you make, though you will need to grant us digital rights to display your work in the game exhibition. Despite the gigantic efforts of our team and all of our participating artists, there is no money involved in TELEPHONE. This is a vast labor of love.
We encourage you to have a look at our last game which can be found at https://phonebook.gallery/
We very much hope you will play with us!
