R.A.R.O. presents itself as a shared space designed to foster collaborative experimentation and dialogue among participants with a strong interest in dynamic exchange. The synergies among artists that characterize our residencies generate mutual influences, renew ideas, and bring new approaches to individual artistic production. Over an intensive period of 4 weeks, residents will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in a supportive environment with constant exchange with the artistic and curatorial team of R.A.R.O. The stay unfolds between artistic practice, action, and reflection, all influenced by the vibrant artistic environment of the city of Madrid.


Who are these residencies for?
Emerging and established national and international artists from all disciplines who are interested in undertaking residencies and want to share space with other artists and specialists for the development and dissemination of their work or projects. Especially aimed at those interested in exchanging knowledge, and thoughts, and establishing collaborations.


SCHEDULE:
- 1st Call for Applications: January 2 to February 18, 2024
- Announcement of selected participants: March 1
- 1st Residency: April 1 to 30.


PROGRAM:

- 4 weeks of work, Monday to Friday from 10 am to 6 pm, in a shared workshop space with other resident artists in the Lavapiés neighborhood (central Madrid).

- Weekly group meetings to track work progress, previously scheduled.

- Curatorial supervision.

- Visits from artists and/or curators and visits to artists' workshops in Madrid.

- Cultural visits as an introduction to the artistic and cultural panorama of Madrid.

- Final Open Studio with curatorial text drafting and publication of a printed catalog.

- Audiovisual recording to be published in R.A.R.O.'s social media.

- Shared dinner or breakfast between residents and the R.A.R.O. team.

- Optionals with an additional cost: Video interview for each resident artist. Photographic portfolio of the production during the residency.



WORKSHOP SPACE:

- Multipurpose workshop with permanent resources for painting, engraving, and ceramics, with the possibility of working on sculpture and all types of artistic disciplines, mediums, and supports. In the space and during the residency, a wide range of techniques can be covered.

- Privileged location next to La Tabacalera, La Casa Encendida, and very close to the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía and Dr. Fourquet Street, where the main art galleries in the city are located.

- Furnished studio in a 148 m2 warehouse and an exterior patio of 400 m2.

- Heating.

- Ceramic floors.

- WiFi and public services.

- Shared use of the kitchen with coffee, tea, infusions, fruits, and snacks available.

- Access to basic tools.

- Mobile walls that turn the environment into an exhibition space for the final Open Studio.



RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE RESIDENTS:

- Meet deadlines and carry out the proposal submitted to the call.

- Be open to exchange.

- Attend as many days of the program and proposed cultural outings as possible.

- The artist is responsible for participation costs, as well as insurance, transportation, travel, meals, and accommodation expenses.

- For fundraising purposes, R.A.R.O. will provide invitation letters and the necessary documentation to access funding.



APPLICATION PROCESS - HOW TO APPLY? (Any application that does not meet the requirements will be automatically discarded.)

Artists from all disciplines can apply for the R.A.R.O. residency. To do so, it is a requirement to complete the following information in the application form:

- CV
- Portfolio with a maximum of 10 images in PDF format (Maximum weight 10 MB / Please name the file: last name_first name_RARO_month of participation_year of participation)
- One professional reference indicating the name, last name, and email of the person to contact if necessary.
- Letter of intent/project to be carried out (maximum 500 words)
- Website and/or social media
