28nd INTERNATIONAL DEGIRMENDERE ZUHTU MURIDOGLU WOODEN SCULPTURE SYMPOSIUM SPECIFICATIONS
1-GENERAL PROVISIONS
Article-1 28th International Degirmendere Zuhtu Muridoğlu Wooden Sculpture Symposium is going to be performed in “Degirmendere Cınarlık Meydanı” between the dates 12 September 2023 -29 September 2023
Article-2 The artists who participate in the symposium are expected to produce site specific sculptures for Değirmendere, of which relations with the environment have been examined in advance.
Article-3 Can be accessed through http://gsf.kocaeli.edu.tr to the visual material of the places which have been designated for application and knowledge about the history of the Değirmendere.
Article-4 6 artists, including three Turks and three foreigners, are going to attend to the symposium.
Article-5 The material is wood (chestnut or oak, which is the tree of the region).
Article-6 Including the way as copyright to the artists who realize their works in the time and
place given to them in accordance with the working rules;
28.000 ₺ for foreign artist
22.000 ₺ for Turkish artist
Turkish Lira will be paid. The said amount will be paid at the end of the symposium together
with the participation certificates.
Turkish Liras to every artist who performed his work in the determined time period and place
according to the working rules. The determined amount is going to be paid at the end of the
symposium with the certificate of attendance.
Article-7 The symposium artists will be selected upon the evaluations to be performed by the selection committee, among the artists of sculpture who applied with projects and personal files suggested for the symposium.
Article-8 Application The application portfolios, which will be the base of choice for the jury regarding the participating artists, must contain the following:
a) Artist’s curriculum vitae that will not exceed A4
b) Artist’s photography
c) Visual documentation of the artist’s 5 previous works in jpeg format
d) The sketches, model or the photograph of the model of the proposed artwork for the symposium, showing different angles, explanation report (please explanation of the proposed artwork relations with the environment), the mounting sketch, an explanation approximately amount of wood and type of additional material to be used in the proposed artwork.
e) E-mail address for communication.
Article-9 The application portfolio not excluding 1.5 MB in total, including all of the documents listed above must be sent to the following address before 26 August 2023 via email: sempozyum@golcuk.bel.tr
Article-10 The documents in the portfolios may be used in press releases, the symposium catalog which will be published at a later date, and similar publications.
Article-11 The artists are going to give the their works that they performed during the symposium to Municipality of Golcuk. These works are going to be located to places by Municipality of Golcuk under the supervision of artists.
Article-12 Municipality of Golcuk is going to be responsible for these works and is not going to sell and not going to donate these works by no reason. Municipality of Golcuk and Kocaeli University Faculty of Fine Arts has the right of taking their photography and slide in order to make a book or a catalogue; shooting their film in order to use them during making a general advertising film and introducing them via sending them to media.
Article-13 Accommodation and nutrition expenses of the artist accepted to the symposium, excluding travel, will be covered within the scope of the project.
Article-14 The artists will have their own health insurances done between the symposium dates.
Article-15 Artists can not finish work of the dates given for any reason,the decision is a result of evaluation of the executive committee.
Article-16 In the event of disagreement, Kocaeli Courts are authorized.
PROVISIONS ABOUT WORKING CONDITIONS
Article-1 Municipality of Golcuk is going to give average 30 cm and 200 cm long two pieces wooden block to the every artist. Also, the montage of the works, its foot and the required equipments are going to be supplied by Municipality of Golcuk provided that they are indicated in the application file. (While choosing the equipments, artist must take into consideration that the work is going to be exhibited outside.)
Article-2 Municipality of Golcuk is going to supply 220 volt electricity and extension cord system, to set the working tables, to plan the required equipments in the symposium area and is going to supply technical support during the wood-working.
Article-3 The artists should bring along their own cutting and polishing machine, small electrical equipment and tools, and the related expenditure materials.
Article-4 3 student assistants from Kocaeli University Faculty of Fine Arts Sculpture Department will be assigned to assist the artists. The selected artists who notify their desicion not to participate or those who do not show up from the first day of the symposium will lose their right to participate The artists are obligated to remain in the symposium working area during the working hours and they obligated to follow the symposium calendar. In any exceptional situations, the Symposium Committee will have a right to assess the situation.
Article-5 Municipality of Golcuk is going to apportion a worker continuously in order to get across in the area during the symposium working hours.
Article-6 Municipality of Golcuk is going to make provision for any work accident to every artist during the symposium. But every artist must be made its own private medical insurance. In that case, If it any occur accidents to the artists, The artists are responsible for own insurance.
Article-7 Municipality of Golcuk is going to provide security guard to police for 24 hours in the symposium area.

29 September 2023 at 16:00 Symposium closing ceremony. Giving the participation certificates of the artists, paying the royalties and transportation expenses.
