Calling all superheroes and heroines!  Art is needed for Faces of the Feminine:  Superheroines and Popular Culture art show hosted by the Seminole Community Library, Seminole, Florida.

This art show is part of a thesis project conducted by Brandy Stark, PhD.  The topic of the thesis researches femininity in comic book superheroines, and the evolutions of major comic book characters, such as Wonder Woman, Supergirl, the Invisible Woman, and others, through modern history.  The art show, as part of this research, identifies how artists connect with and express modern pop culture manifestations of this theme.

Characters can reflect known superheroines, independent characters, or interpretive art.  Artists will be asked to describe the theme of their work, which will be posted with the show.  Art will be dispersed through the library on easels or hung on the walls.  There is a display case available for limited amounts of 3-D art.

There is no fee to enter or exhibit. Artists will be able to sell art via independent sales.  Cards identifying artist name and contact information will be placed with the works.  Art may not be removed from the show until July 6.  The public will be encouraged to vote for their favorite works via ballots provided at the library.  The winner will receive a $100 cash prize donated by Brandy Stark.

The Seminole Library has scheduled Brandy Stark to speak about her research in June, and is planning to show comics-themed movies for the month in conjunction with the art show.  The art show will be documented via photographs and quotes from artist entries in her thesis.  Artists will retain all rights to the works.

Art must be received by June 1.  Please contact Brandy Stark (stark_brandy@hotmail.com) by May 29 for delivery, pick up, or mailing options.  There is a standard waiver for artists to sign in order to show at the library which can be completed in person, via mail or e-mail.
