Royal West of England Academy, Bristol, is inviting entries of art for its most popular show on the exhibition calendar, the 158 Autumn Exhibition.
Sculptors, painters, architects, photographers, and printmakers, both professional and amateur, can submit work for consideration. Exhibited pieces may also be awarded prizes sponsored by Creative Picture Framing, Consumer Intelligence, St Cuthbert’s Mill, UWE School of Creative Arts, Venue Magazine, CREATE Centre, Bristol Drawing School, and Friends of the RWA.
Last year, work included a baby’s Christening gown printed with the images of its parents, by Mary Drown, and Sue Whale’s love notes pinned under glass, alongside invited artist Sir Peter Blake’s work ‘I Love You’ and a screen print of Marilyn Monroe.
“We are looking for pieces that are technically well executed or have a really interesting or quirky element to it, something that makes you stop and look at it,” Simon Quadrat, RWA president explained. “Everyone has the same opportunity to be chosen, but we exhibit only the very best of the work sent in,” he added. “We value the contribution the public make by sending in their work.”
Chosen artists from the submissions will be exhibiting alongside invited artists. This year features internationally regarded painter Graham Crowley and hand-picked artist of the future, UWE graduate Samuel Miller.
Prospective exhibitors can submit entry details online at http://www.rwa.org.uk/openfrm.htm">www.rwa.org.uk/openfrm.htm until 15 September. Artists then hand in the work to be considered at London, Birmingham, Penzance and Exeter from 13-15 September and RWA itself 16-18 September. For those unable to submit online, packs are available from the RWA from 19 July.
