— #1 ONE DAY
COLLECTION

Elemental Publishing would like to thank you for expressing interest in submitting your collection for the first issue of our zine!

A zine about collecting?!

But why, you ask? We're interested in understanding the archival impulses of individuals through their personal collections. Will this/these item(s) give us a window to understanding a person? Hopefully so.

Here are more nitty-gritty details regarding the submission:

For our first issue, we’re looking at the constituents of a one-day collection. We’re not commissioning you to create an archive following this brief, but rather to look through what you have had intentionally collected.

Why are we doing this?  We're hoping to generate an archive in the spheres of personal individuals. In doing so, we hope to act as an intermediary in creating a space where private archives are made public and specifically creating this archive which is then subjected to wear and tear of its physicality.

What are we looking for?
Things you collect which carries personal archival value manifested through the informational or evidentiary value inscribed on it; some examples are the daily paper, found objects, receipts, sketches, ticket stubs, product packaging, internet screenshots, sticky notes, scraps... Even things that appear to be trash — we want it!     Then, gather these items which were collected on the very same day (eg. it is your birthday; polaroids you’ve taken with friends, unique gift wrapping, screenshots of text messages, a ticket stub from the midnight movie) and then...

What do you need to do?

Please write up a brief description of the one-day archive you're submitting. And include the following: 1. List and describe the item(s) in the one-day collection, as personal as you'd like.
2. What was the date this/these physical or virtual item(s) were gathered, is then this date significant?  3. Please also attach your virtual item(s) and/or photograph(s) of your physical item(s) — if you'd like to photograph them individually, or collectively, that is up to you.

When is the submission deadline?
Submissions will close at 11:59 PM EST on March 31st 2019, Sunday

When will this zine be published?
While we're working out the kinks of the zine, we'll be publishing our first issue this May 2019!

Feel free to direct any questions to hielemental@gmail.com. We hope to see your submission soon!
