2019 Institute for Electronic Arts (IEA) Experimental Projects Residency - Electronic Media/Film

The IEA’s Experimental Project Residency Program will support an artist with a one or two week residency, an artist stipend, travel-support, lodging, technology access, materials and technical assistance. Artists have access to a combination of emerging, contemporary and historical media arts tools and materials many unique and not ordinarily available in a studio setting.

 

The resident artists have 24 hour dedicated access to the IEA studio and equipment. The IEA research associate will work with the resident artist. Additional technical staff and faculty are also available for consultation.

 

Eligibility Requirements:

 

To be eligible for this residency you must be a New York State resident. Currently enrolled students are not eligible.

 

* Please note that we have two residency programs (Electronic Media/Film and Visual Arts). Please read the IEA Residency calls carefully to assure eligibility.

 

Electronic Media and Film


The IEA studio area for video and sound is an integrated system with real-time-video, image-processing software, hardware and video capture. 

 

The studio has realtime video capture in Pro-res 422, together with a live HD/4K video production Switcher/Mixer/Keyer.

 

Contemporary systems include two Mac Pro 3.5 GHz 6-core workstations with a range of software including the Adobe Creative Cloud Suite, Max 7, Ableton Live Suite 9 with Max for Live and VIZZable video effects plug-ins, Touch Designer, Lumen and Mudbox. Also available are three Panasonic 4K HC-VX981 Video Cameras, with inputs into both Mac workstations and the ATEM Video Mixer. The IEA studio has historical legacy video systems including the Sandin IP, the Dave Jones Design, FB-1 Frame Buffer (B&W), the Fairlight CVI  and two Ikegami B&W cameras.

 

The Audio in the studio includes a RME Fireface UFX and PreSonus AR8 Audio mixer and a Stanton T.92 digital turntable and monitoring, three new Dave Jones Design, Digital Oscillators (video and audio system with Core) and an assortment of Eurorack modules. Available for location/field recording are a Panasonic 4K HC-VX981 Video Camera, a Canon EOS 5d Mark III DSLR camera, a Lenovo Mirage 180°VR camera with Daydream headset, Tascam DR-100 audio recorder and LED soft-lights. Residency artists also have additional scheduled access to Expanded Media Studios including video studios and an electro-acoustic sound studio with an array of Doepfer analog processing modules, GRM tools, Audition, Reactor, Spear and surround sound capabilities.

 

Application Requirements and Checklist


In a single document include the following:

 

Applicant’s legal name, address, and primary phone number.

Short preliminary project proposal.

Artist statement.

CV.

Up to 10 minutes combined of time based work, this can include video, sound and performance documentation. If you have still images that you feel are relevant to your application you may include 10-15 still images, each image should be no more than 3MB.

 

Files may be submitted via:

 

WeTransfer, Dropbox, USB Flash Drive or DVD, please send a self addressed envelope with prepaid postage if you wish for these to be returned to you.

 

For streaming videos please send a link for each piece.
