Call for Exhibition and Project Proposals // Public Space One

Public Space One is now taking proposals for solo and group exhibitions and projects (from artists or curators) to take place in 2018 in Iowa City, IA.

PS1’s gallery program is a venue for innovative, experimental, and challenging contemporary art embedded in a multidisciplinary, accessible, and community-driven space. We encourage incoming artists/curators to activate the space by holding events such as screenings, artist talks, performances, or workshops. While all proposals will be seriously considered, highest priority is generally given to those that go beyond what is on the wall and fully uses the uniqueness of our space and offerings.

While most exhibitions will occur in our gallery space at 120 N. Dubuque St. in downtown Iowa City, we also program satellite spaces and are open to proposals that go beyond our space. We typically schedule exhibitions that last 3-4 weeks, though we are also interested in shorter, time-based events and projects. Please include any scheduling limitations and/or specific space needs in your proposal.

Send us a proposal describing your work and/or idea and explaining how you imagine it working in (or from out of) our space (feel free to visit if you are local, or contact us with questions if you are not). We welcome written proposals, digital images, or web links that explain or demonstrate your exhibition/event concept. Please email inquiries or your proposal to:

Proposals received by our early submission deadline, Sun. Dec. 10, will be considered for a March 2018 exhibition that will be part of the semi-annual Iowa City Gallery Walk, as well as for slots later in the year. Final deadline for proposals is Mon. Jan. 15.
