URBAN SPACE is a photographic traveling exhibition open to international artists. Focusing on the aesthetics of large urban centers as a theme, URBAN SPACE curates works of photography, performance and interventions and is exhibited as a projected slideshow at selected festivals and galleries around the world. The first edition of URBAN SPACE - a projection of 530 images from over 23 countries - was first premiered at the renowned media arts foundation Oi Futuro in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) in July 2007. The show has since travel to be screened at several exhibitions and festivals worldwide, including: ECCO during Brasilia's FotoArte, Sao Paulo's Galeria Vermelho, the Clemente Soto Vélez Cultural Center in New York, as well as showings at the Fotopub07 festival in Slovenia. Future screenings are scheduled for Lisbon, Porto, New York City, Chicago, Montreal, Buenos Aires and Caracas. The 2008 edition of URBAN SPACE is curated around the theme of "URBAN COMMUNITIES" and looks to examine the diverse formation of local communities, informal situations and other site-specific representations of contemporary urban existence. Anonymity. Survival. Decadence. Defiance. Works may include photographic documentation of performances and site specific actions, digital interventions as well as traditional still photography.
