shrineart furniture sculptures
Throughout his artistic project shrineart the artist Josef Greiner from Hamburg works with relics of yesterday. From collected pieces of ornate furniture-sculptures which he calls shrines.
Everyday objects and materials such as iron, brass, copper, parts of machinery, ceramic materials, glass, seashells, rubber, doorhandles, driftwood, heavy root or heartpieces from old trees and furniture that may have some meaning are being used to build the shrines. Cultural objects that may have lost worth in a monetary sense are placed in a new context. They take on a new meaning and therefore a new value. Recognizing the objects within their new function ties together the past and past memories with the present, and a new creative energy.
