The Nomad Curator and Lote 84 announce a brand new art residency in Brazil

After a 6-year experience around the world, including 12 months in Egypt developing art projects, curating exhibitions, a biennial, and running art residencies, The Nomad Curator starts a partnership with Lote 84 in Brazil. Together, they share this new initiative that will host a series of residencies, courses and exhibitions in the beautiful neighbourhood of Praia dos Amores, part of the resort city of Balneário Camboriú, in the South of the country. The residency welcomes artists and researchers from all kinds of art. Yet, we are specially interested in contemporary art and less traditional practices.

The theme of this residency is: "Disorder and Art: contemporary reflections in an era of catastrophes"
The applicants are invited to reflect, question and suggest changes through the act of making art in a troubled world. This residency stimulates the reflexion on social-political-economic issues of contemporary times and invites us all to debate the power of art (or the absence of it) in times of conflicts, fights for power, international potencies in disagreement, strength of totalitarian regimes, rising of fascist ideas, big economic gaps, imaginary and real borders, among others.

The residency includes the artist participation in talks and seminars and proposes a solo or (the participation on) group exhibition in the middle of the year, depending on the results inside the experience.
The applicant will be guided and have the support of The Nomad Curator during her/his weeks of stay. Brazilian creators are also glad to contribute, dialogue and exchange ideas.
Every participant is encouraged to give a public talk to the local community about her/his career and this in loco experience at the end of the residency.
The artist will have access to a private bedroom and bathroom and the collective areas - including two studios, kitchen, laundry room, balconies and garden.
