Art in the Metroplex was first held in 1983. At its root, the exhibit was the brainchild of two people who wanted to work together. Beth Lea Clardy was an established Fort Worth artist, a 1940 graduate of the TCU art program and one of a quartet of concerned citizens who in 1978 founded the non-profit Committee for an Artists’ Center. Ronald Watson was an artist and educator on the faculty of the TCU Department of Art and Art History. He assumed the chairmanship of the TCU art department in 1982 with a goal of “seeking greater collaboration between the university and Fort Worth artists and organizations. Through its proud 33 year history, Art in the Metroplex has exhibited the work of thousands of local artists but much like all great things, it too must come to an end. Watch for details about a new show at this time next year in its place.
CALL TO ARTISTS: Open call to all artists in the DFW Metroplex and surrounding areas - Tarrant, Dallas, Collin, Cooke, Denton, Ellis, Grayson, Hill, Hood, Hunt, Jack, Johnson, Kaufmann, Navarro, Palo Pinto, Parker, Rockwall, Somervell and Wise. Open to artists over the age of 18, all disciplines with no theme. All medias including oils, acrylics, pastels, watercolors, prints, drawings, mixed media, sculpture, video, installation, photography, and digital art. Art in the Metroplex Grand Finale will occur in our premier, 3000 square foot, Front Gallery at The Arts Center. All artwork must be original and must not infringe upon any copyright or the rights of any person.
· Grand Prize Winner: Solo Show in our Main Gallery at Art7, a storefront gallery located on Crockett St. in Fort Worth’s bustling 7th Street area.
· Runners Up: A group exhibition occurring simultaneously as the solo show in the Back section of the Art7 Gallery.
ABOUT THE JUROR: Judy Tedford Deaton, Chief Curator and Director of Exhibitions and Collections, has been curating exhibitions and overseeing the art and history collections at The Grace Museum since 2006. She is responsible for concept development, installation and interpretation of twelve art exhibitions annually. She is an author, art historian, frequent guest speaker, art consultant, art juror and panelist at museums and conferences such as American Alliance of Museums (AAM), Texas Association of Museums (TAM), Contemporary Art Dealers of Dallas (CADD), Mountain Plains Museum Association (MPMA), and the Center for the Advancement and Study of Early Texas Art (CASETA). Deaton is currently a member for the CASETA board of directors and served on the 2015 Arts Create Grant Panel for the Texas Commission on the Arts (TCA) and was recently featured in the National Endowment for the Humanities, Humanities publication. She is also the recipient of CASETA awards for outstanding publications and exhibitions in 2014, 2015 and 2016 and the MPMA 2009 award for exhibition art publications.
ABOUT US: Located at 1300 Gendy Street, the FWCAC is part of the most architecturally significant museum districts in the United States. The striking modern Herbert Bayer building (with a later O’Neil Ford addition) opened to the public in 1954 as home to one of the most prestigious and oldest collecting organizations in the state of Texas, the Modern Museum of Fort Worth. When, in 2002, the Modern moved down the street, the Fort Worth Community Arts Center opened. The building has exhibited world class art and supported the performing arts for more than half a century. The Arts Council manages the FWCAC, provides leadership and funding to local arts organizations through our competitive Grants Program and administers the Fort Worth Public Art program.
SUBMISSION: Work will be juried from images submitted only through the gallery’s online submission. $25 submission fee for up to three pieces. Each additional submission will be $5 each. Images must be JPEGs with minimum width/height of 800 pixels, maximum size as 3MB. Do not use spaces or special characters (!@$, etc) in image file names. Video and audio files can be submitted through links. FWCAC reserves the right to reject inaccurately represented work, or incomplete submission.
PRESENTATION: Work must be suitably framed (or sides cleanly finished or painted) and ready for hanging. D-rings should be used for heavy works, wires for works under 5lbs. Drawings, prints, watercolors and pastels on paper must be under Plexiglass.
SALES: All work will be for sale unless the artist informs the gallery to the contrary. 25% of proceeds from sales will go to FWCAC and the remainder to the artists.
RECEIVING: Hand-delivered and shipped work must arrive between September 25 and September 30, 2017. Substitutions and late arriving work will not be exhibited. Work must remain for the duration of exhibition.
DEADLINE: All applications must be submitted before midnight (CMT) on September 15, 2017. FWCAC will notify accepted applicants only by September 25, 2017.
SHIPMENT: All shipped work must have a returned mailing label included and must arrive in a package that can be reused for the return shipment.
REMOVAL: All hand delivered work must be picked up from gallery on October 26th - October 30, 2017 between 9:00am – 5:00pm. Works not removed on these days will be placed in storage and released at gallery’s convenience.

· October 26, 2017 - Show comes down, pick up or repacked for return shipment

LIABILITY: This document represents a contract between the Fort Worth Community Arts Center and the person(s) named on this document. Acceptance of this contract is a specific acceptance of the terms listed. Objects exhibited in the FWCAC will be given great care. Unless the artist wishes to provide his/her own insurance coverage, the FWCAC will insure all exhibitions under its existing insurance policy, which covers up to $500,000, against all risks of physical loss or damage while on the premises during the period of the exhibition. If the exhibitor(s) wish to provide his/her own insurance, such actions constitute the release of the FWCAC from any liability in connection with the exhibition. Coverage is not authorized past the exhibition and artwork may not be stored at the FWCAC unless prior arrangements have been made. The FWCAC allows visitors to photograph works of art. Artists are required to contribute 25% from work sold in the exhibition. By submitting your artwork, you are agreeing to the terms above.
