Artist Reception:  Thursday October 5, 6:30pm-9:30pm  Show Runs: October 5, – October 27, 2017 Hours: 11am – 5 pm "To the fragile, frayed, and fragmented scraps that stitch and string together our life forms. To the bodies constructed of moments in time and memories. To the dissonant voices, disparately intertwined, scribbled on our sleeves, whispering our secret stories. To the well-kept, the hardly kept, the somebody’s, and the nobodies ...these tales are for you." Kathryn Megginson There is no telling why people are drawn to the bizarre and haunting art but for some reason they are. Frightening, mysterious, and weird. This October, Las Laguna Gallery is pleased to present Spectacular: Eerie, Creepy, Scary Spooky. This exhibition features works from art that have been described as peculiar, strange, bizarre, unsettling, or chilling. You are sure to leave show shocked, stunned and surprised Kathryn Megginsons’ work "Tales of a Ragged Doll" is a series of paintings that explore the power of story in relation to human connection and shared experience. With the Ragged Dolls as character metaphors, each painting reads as narrative portraiture. The images seek to explore and expose the often hidden realities of the universal human experience. Brandin Barón compositions are “staged” through the process of layering my photographic and hand-rendered imagery with stock photography and digital textures. Marisela Gaxiola likes drawing dark pieces or weird drawings because she feels people nowadays are too busy trying to be like each other instead of being individuals. p.p1 {margin: 0.0px 0.0px 14.4px 0.0px; font: 11.0px 'Franklin Gothic Book'; color: #4c4c4c; -webkit-text-stroke: #4c4c4c} p.p2 {margin: 0.0px 0.0px 5.0px 0.0px; font: 11.0px 'Franklin Gothic Book'; color: #4c4c4c; -webkit-text-stroke: #4c4c4c} p.p3 {margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px; font: 11.0px 'Franklin Gothic Book'; color: #4c4c4c; -webkit-text-stroke: #4c4c4c} span.s1 {font-kerning: none} span.s2 {font-kerning: none; color: #2d2d2d; -webkit-text-stroke: 0px #2d2d2d} span.s3 {font: 11.0px 'Franklin Gothic Medium'; font-kerning: none; color: #2d2d2d; -webkit-text-stroke: 0px #2d2d2d} Artists include:Brandin Barón, Mimi Botscheller, Jennifer Carberry-Landis, Lori Clark, Betty Cox, Mark Dierker, Lauren Douglas, Sara El-Arid, Matt Frantz, Marisela Gaxiola, Karl Hauser,Trish Igo, Allen King, Krysta Logan, Sarah Marie, Henry Marnghitr, David Marvel, Gary Mathis.
