Between (Sept 5-25, 2016)
Fifty paintings from the collection of the National Gallery of Macedonia are wrapped in black fabric (the Black Cross) and displaced throughout the gallery. Accompanying them are dozens of technical descriptions of the actual artworks borrowed from the museum archives. The installation attempts to address questions regarding the relation between the art object and the viewer, the museum/ gallery system and its ideological background vs the role of the artist as curator within a framework of mainstream power systems. The genesis of Between is linked with several earlier installation pieces (2012 - 2015) produced as a reaction to censorship of art in Macedonia and in the region. The exhibition was staged at the Chifte Hamam Gallery throughout September, 2016. Catalogue: full color; 500 copies; text by V. Janchevski. Published by TP Sandinista, 2016.
