Control Mechanisms

Moorland Productions current exhibition at the Galerie Nová Sín, Prague, CZ (22 November - 11 December 2011) features 17 paintings, 3 digital prints, and a 'Whispering Zen Garden'. Inspired by the security tags placed in books and Cds to prevent theft, the abstract forms of the paintings refer too, to labyrinths, US abstract painting from the 1950s-80s and Japanese Zen Gardens.  In her catalogue text, leading Czech historian and critic,Teresa Petisková,  makes links to the labyrinthine world of Kafka's Prague, and more recent attempts at authoritarian control in Czech history.  The Zen garden, composed of two artificial rocks, is set amongst shredded documents, with speakers whispering paranoid secrets in alternately male and female voices.
