ABANDONED/KILLING IS NOT A SPORT

ABANDONED/KILLING IS NOT A SPORT                                  A PHOTO ESSAY BY: JEFF CHILDS                  This project documents a local landmark ‘The  Midway Motel’. Located between Kingston and  Gananoque Ontario it was abandoned in the mid  90’s and left to fend for itself. The Motel and  managements living quarters sit open to decay as a  metaphor for loss and a changing society.I have  photographed each space as I found it with the  abrupt nature of the exodus being suggested in some  by the remaining personal artifacts. Each recorded  space contains suggestive additions of a more or less  subliminal nature including the subtitle ‘Killing is  not a Sport’ which is an initial bid to promote a  movement towards the abandonment of an outdated  view of our relationship to our fellow living things.  This came about when a local city counselor was  promoting Sunday hunting. All images in this  project will be produced as large format (24 x 36  in.) archival prints. This exhibition contains a  sampling of 20 such images.                                                                                                                                  J.B.Childs
