Non native (Cupressus macrocarpa) was a project created for the Headlands Center for the Arts. Housed in former army barracks, much of the ‘natural’ landscape of the site is also the result of military interventions. Monterey cypress and pines were first planted by the US Army in the 1800s as windscreens and later accidentally by seeds caught in truck tires on loan from Monterey bases.
