My paintings are scenarios that depict slightly surreal takes on both a nostalgic Britain and the Britain we live in today; Words which dominate when describing the motives behind my work would be consumerism, fast food, fast living I pick out traits, quirks and events that epitomise British-ness to me. The colours in the painting are hyper-real and have distinctive photo realism qualities which creates the element of surrealism aimed to distinguish the scenarios as fiction, rather than actual events. I use a lot of celebrities within my work too, mostly to personify a certain idea and often to mirror the fixation of celebrity within British culture.My stance as an artist is observational, reflective and occasionally political. The imagery within my paintings often harks back to a sketch in a Carry On or Monty Python film; the characters in the scenarios are more often than not, British celebrities of the deserved kind, the unwanted kind and the easily earned fame of the pages of Heat Magazine. And it is through this use of celebrity that has engaged me with a slightly darker dimension, the undertones of which can me seen in my more recent pieces such as
