I am drawn to the effects different materials have on each other and the visual history of this process.In my latest body of work I use acrylic medium to investigate the way paint interacts with other water based mediawhile creating heavily layered painted canvases.Using layer upon layer of paint, I create complex compositions that at times resemble organic cell systems, topographiclike terrains and underwater landscapes. The shapes, shades, lines, drips and painted fields that form the canvas' surface,form a visual effect that operates on the levels of both realism and abstraction.What could be perceived from afar as a photographic like image of a landscape reveals itself as a fluid likewash of paint. Upon a closer look, what is unveiled are lines of threads sewn in aluminum yarn, copper wire,painted eyes as well as delicately drawn lines which disappear from afar in these vast surfaces.The strong visual illusion that takes place in these paintings mostly happens without my intervention, and is adirect result of the particular process which I am using and which creates a source of tension betweenintervention and creation; process and result.
