H.E.L.P. (Hip Hop Education Literacy Program is a series of study guides that features the lyrics of some positive Hip Hop songs by popular Rap/ Hip Hop recording artists. This series of black and white drawing was produced entirely on the computer using a Wacom tablet, digital photographs, and Photoshop.
This group of drawings was produced during a period of migration from Miami to DC. The work in this exhibition is a product of my anger, and frustration at the lack of truth and justice in my country. These emotive gesture drawings served as an immediate way for me to generate an art product at a time when I was not able to work in the studio daily.
Each drawing in this series is a manifestation of the complexity of urban American life and the balance between order and chaos. In these drawings, defined structures represent order while the disruptions of these structures or parts of the picture that invade a defined area represent change, growth, or chaos.
As always, I welcome any comments or interpretation of the work.
