Today I have been outside in Neukölln - in the area of Schillerpromenade and Hermannstr. In the resedential area weren't that much shops etc. to ask. They had nothing to do.
Then in Hermannstr. I met a very interesting guy from a electronic-shop. The talk was to detailled to write it down here. The most imporant aspects: He left school with the age of 12 and grew - as he said - up in caring places for young people. In an autodidactic way he learned the meaning and possibilities of work. Now he has his own shop and a lot of ideas for social work. But due to the lack of time (he has to rum his own business) , of money and - overall - of governmental support he can't realise these ideas to improve the life of young people. We spoke one hour, he loves talking over the situations young people are in and has interesting ideas to help them - just like he got help in his early years.
He offered jobs (to deconstruct old computers into their components under the assistance of one of his workers) and liked the idea of filming etc. But he doesn't want to give any money to the young people... On Friday I'm going to meet him again to talk over dates to work

What can I do to persuade him to give (minimum) a little pocket money to the young people?

It was important for the shop-owner that the flashjobs officially called a little internships - so that he won't get accused of child-labor.

Patrick_MyReport_story_01
Hello, I am Patrick. I am contributing in the role as a Catalyst to The Flash Job Campaign, June 1st - 15th. Throughout this project I will dedicate my blog to the stories, FAQ's and Tips and Tricks I develop alone and with other Catalysts. My first contribution is to publish the text I submitted in my application for the project. Among the Thirteen Catalysts and the Two writers (from the Project "Open Dialogues") we agreed to share our application-texts, since this seems like a fair way to start our relationship.
Here are my statements following the standard questions of the application form:
DESCRIBE YOUR REASONS FOR APPLYING, AS WELL AS RELEVANT PAST EXPERIENCES (IF ANY)
I am very familiar with the background of this project. Since 2003 I have been collaborating with ArtSourceLab on various projects, mostly, however, on TeenKom. So, on the one hand, I am a complete “insider”, on the other hand, I have not yet done the practical social intervention in the project frame of TeenKom which has inspired to The Flash Job Campaign. My role in the TeenKom development has so-far been to work with the few people around artist Per Traasdahl on developing theoretical concepts, strategic planning of partner-targeting, networking, attendance at conferences and editorial work. As of this coming fall, TeenKom will start a new 3-year phase, where I will form the leading team together with Per. The development will start with very simple “social interventions”, where we simply walk down the streets of the target-city quarter and start speaking to people. I have – in my past – done different work with adolescents and in the area of promotion, which I think is close to this form of social intervention. But I think The Flash Job Campaign is a brilliant occasion for me to dive into a world of experience, which cannot be foreseen.
DESCRIBE YOUR ARTISTIC PRACTICE
In a narrow sense I am not an artist, and I don’t need such a title. I am a philosopher, momentarily doing my PhD in the topic of transcendental consciousness-studies (“Von der Objektivation zur Genese. Bewusstseinsphilosophie in methodenkritischer Perspektive” / “From Objektivation to Genesis. Philosophy of the Consciousness in a critical perspective”). Studying in Groningen (NL) and Berlin I got easily in contact with scientists working across the borders. After several years in Berlin we founded the “Internationales Forschungsnetzwerk Transzendentalphilosophie/Deutscher Idealismus” (International Research Network for Transcental Philosophy / German Idealism) with around 35 scientists from Europe and South America. There is a database (www.aprior-i.eu) in the works, getting launched 07-2008. Beside this I’m working at the “Sportinstitut” (Philosophy of Sports) of the Humboldt-University of Berlin, as an assistant and teacher.
Another important project is typesetting old books from around 1800, so that these books can be studied again. In my early years I founded “Beatz e.V.”, an association for lovers of electronic music, in my hometown. Later I worked as an organizer for young travellers (RUF). In all my work I seek to explicate the complicate structures of our consciousness. In this way new possibilities arise to implement the philosophical thought in the practice of daily life and so to improve its quality by gaining new options to act.
For The Flash Job Campaign, I look forward to two weeks of interacting and cooperating with artists. I am quite open towards which media of output I would prefer, and how collaboration can come about.
