"Infiltrations" solo show of Stefania Migliorati

The role of the contemporary artist consists of capturing signals originating from society, becoming an interpreter for these signals, and operating a critique. By referring to existence, the artist testifies to its cultural and social conditions.  The space and its related topics, such as movement, perception, time, and identity, are the concepts around which Stefania Migliorati extends her artistic research emphasizing the values that art generates in relation to the territory, not only as a geographical and physical area, but also as a lived-in space and as the history of the material and immaterial signs of the past. The water symbolizes the starting critical vehicle for the evolution of a study aimed to analyze the transformations of urban spaces, whether physical, the construction itself, or those mental, by a modification which passes through the perception of space. The link between architecture and water has sunk its roots in a remote past. Water has generated the most imposing human civilizations. The history of human development could not be written independently of its historical relationship with water.  Through the anthropological and social, geographical and natural complexity of the urban landscape, following the river course becomes a pretext for the artist to identify and investigate areas where the waterways intersect social, cultural, historical, economic, and political areas of infiltration.  These are places where people pass and live at the same time and are slowly but constantly subjected to urban and social changes produced by the continuous flow of notions, subjects, and relationships. The connection between the artist and the space is directed to the knowledge and to the exploration of its diversity. The encounter with the changing territory changes the artist’s approach to it as well. The act of walking does not only involve the crossing of an area anymore, but also becomes an aesthetic practice of knowledge and proper form of urban intervention, a symbolic, as well as physical transformation of anthropic space.
