When We Dead Awaken
February 1 - 26, 2012 VASILIS ASIMAKOPOLOUS | AARON HOLZ | JOHN NIELSEN | ANJA RONACHER Appropriating its title from playwright Henrik Ibsen's final play, dating 1899 and debuting at London's Haymarket Theater, When We Dead Awaken is an exhibition that presents themes of art imitating life, and life imitating art – and very consciously appropriates themes of adoration, petrification, mortality, and the plight of the artist. The exhibition comments on the myth of the artistic genius and the role of art as consciously self-aware through works that challenge the artist’s role in the process of creation.
