OPEN DIALOGUES: NEW LIFE BERLIN is a critical writing initiative exploring online and offline communities during the NEW LIFE BERLIN Festival in June 2008.
Through the OPEN DIALOUGES program, we are asking local and international writers to participate in the development of critical responses to the NEW LIFE BERLIN Festival.
In collaboration with the participating writers, OPEN DIALOGUES: NEW LIFE BERLIN will investigate the implications and role of critical writing as discourse and practice. We will explore critical writing in relation to communities of contemporary art, and develop organic responses to the Festival as it unfolds.
OPEN DIALOGUES: NEW LIFE BERLIN is devised and organized by Mary Paterson and Rachel Lois Clapham of Open Dialogues. Open Dialogues is a UK-based critical writing initiative that supports, fosters and promotes international networks for critical debate around contemporary art.
Previously, Mary Paterson and Rachel Lois Clapham have collaborated with such events and biennials as The National Review of Live Art (Glasgow 07 and 08), SPILL (London 07), VITAL (Manchester 07) and the Performa 07 Biennial (New York 07).

Dear people of Open dialogues,
the Laboratorio Berlin would like to thank you so much for your work!
Personally, I think that this project was very strong and helped to link in a way or the other the different New life Festival projects. It cristallizes and filled up inbetween spaces. Reading the texts I came the projects that I couldn't see or participate much closer. For me as visual artists it is a very intresting experience to see reflections about the visual and performative acts in texts and words. I see a very fruitfull cooperation and as visual artists the feedback of which aspect are relevant, or how our work was percieved in the texture of a text gives another angel and a very enriching point of view.
Thank you very much!!
