OyeDrum is an online magazine dedicated to women and their existence through words, art and sound.

We aim to provide a platform for international voices, and all types of explorative work in creative writing, performance, and visual art exclusively by women, for all audiences. Our mission is to nurture, develop and promote female talent, encourage the weird and experimental, and to create a community and safe space for women to freely express themselves.

OUR QUARTERLY ISSUE IS NOW OPEN FOR SUBMISSIONS!

Our upcoming issue will feature science-fiction/fantasy as the theme. We are seeking visual art, performance art, short-films, spoken-audio pieces, creative writing, poetry, hybrid work, photo essays, graphic novels, and more by women and witches.

We are accepting the following genres and themes under the umbrella of SCIENCE-FICTION/FANTASY: speculative fiction, gothic fiction, utopia/dystopia, apocalyptic/post-apocalyptic, artificial intelligence, magical realism, aliens, time-travel. (Please don’t hesitate to ask us about any other sci-fi/fantasy related themes not mentioned here.)

We welcome all sorts of interpretations and depictions of our theme: humorous, serious, personal, dramatic, romantic, scary, etc. While we don’t require your work to be feminist in nature, we do encourage it.

Deadline: May 10, 2020

Visual Art
Photography and art submissions will be accepted as both solo pieces, as well as to accompany the literary work we’re publishing. Send a minimum of 5 images in a single submission—they should work together as a set, as well as a narrative piece. Please send us all images as attachments in PDF or JPEG format, high quality.

Media
We accept pieces sent through SoundCloud, Vimeo, Youtube, and Spotify. If your visual or audio piece is uploaded through a different third party (than the ones listed), please contact us to see if we can work with it. Absolutely no Dropbox files.

GENERAL GUIDELINES
1. All submissions should be original, unpublished work. However, if the piece has already been published in your personal blog, another small publication, or is currently available through a third party media outlet (this is mostly for multimedia folks), we will consider it on a case by case basis.
2. Can I submit if I’m gender non-conforming female or a trans woman? Yes.
3. Make sure to include a brief bio in the body of your email, along with your social media info. We also ask that you let us know a little bit about your work and the piece you’re submitting.
4. If you’re interested in contributing to our weekly section for editorial pieces that are not related to our quarterly theme (sci-fi), please make sure to write WEEKLY on the subject line. We’re open to pitches for interviews, book reviews, art reviews, personal essays, creative writing, and more. The weekly section is ALWAYS open for submissions on a rolling basis.

OTHER INFORMATION
1. If you are accepted by OyeDrum, we have the right to publish your work and promote it on our social media. You, the creator of the work, will remain the one and only owner of your intellectual property with full rights as well.
2. We try to respond to each submission within a reasonable period, but due to the volume of submissions we receive, we may not always be able to do so. Please query after three weeks if you have not heard back from us, and would like to know the status of your submission.
3. Our finances do not permit us to pay contributors at this time.
