Welcome to As A Matter Of Sound - sound art open call (January 12th, 2020 - December 12th, 2020).

We are surrounded by all kinds of sounds: landscape sounds, animal and human sounds, mechanical sounds, transmissions, electronic sounds, natural and artificial sounds, signals. We are living nested in a huge web of sonic fluid objects; existence would not be the same without it. in our absence sounds exist, even before and after us, matter is in absolute conjunction with sound. Microscopically, a house, an office, an atelier or a studio host similar but smaller webs of sound, interconnected. a universal and collective hive that can be measured in hertz and decibels.

It is almost a norm that constant fields of sound are coexisting with us, noticed or even unnoticed. The sound of an air-conditioner, a stove or even that tiny sound of a mouse-click, a fly, the wind or a distant ant; thunder or volcano, a gunshot or running water. We are more concerned for an event, rather than its sound even though sounds are equally present, in the whole history of existence. many times we are enjoying listening to background sounds or noises, furthermore, perceive them as something pleasant if not… music! This is the concept of As A Matter Of Sound.

We are looking for twenty-four artists each month, for the next twelve months. They must record and provide us with a sixty-minute field recording according to a topic that will be provided in the beginning of each month. Then, the collected material will be sorted and merged into a single, twenty four-hour sound file.

The outcome of this project will be available in digital and physical form. Our goal for this material, is to be used (in both forms, digital or physical) as a constant, non-stop, background sonic landscape, in a living or working place, replicating the natural condition of matter coexisting with sound.
