Description of residency program
The Chilkoot Trail Artist Residency is a truly unique opportunity for established visual artists to pursue their work amidst history and nature. Artists will hike the entire 53km trail during a two week backpacking trip, spending one to three days at each campsite. Each artist will be required to provide and carry all of their backpacking gear, food and art supplies for the journey.

Accommodation
The Residency is held within the Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park (Alaska, USA) and the Chilkoot Trail National Historic Site (Canada). Artists provide their own backpacking gear including their tent.
Studio/ workspace
There is no formal studio/workspace as artists will be outside in the stunning Chilkoot Trail.
Fees and support
Artists will receive a $3000 CAD honorarium from Yukon Arts Centre and up to $100 USD support from Skagway Arts Council in purchasing necessary art supplies.
The Chilkoot Trail Artist Residency is a partnership between the Yukon Arts Centre, Parks Canada, and the US National Parks Service.
Expectations towards the artist
Artists will provide artist talks and or workshops along the trail with fellow hikers and post-trail in Skagway Alaska and Whitehorse Yukon. Interacting with the public is an important part of this residency.
