HAIHATUS ARTIST RESIDENCY IN FINLAND

As a resident artist you can participate the annual Haihatus International exhibition in September and art happenings year-round. You can also arrange your own happenings to perform your own art. Or you can just rest and get inspired by the forests and lakes in Finland and find new international artist friends. Haihatus is an easygoing place to be.

Haihatus admits 1 - 6 full calendar month residencies for artists and art students of all disciplines

HAIHATUS PRINCIPLES
Haihatus is a place to focus on making art and getting inspired.Haihatus artist residency aims to collaboration and communication between arts and artists. There is a lot of space to make art and colleagues to work and spend time with. Own space and time is also available and respected. The former residency artists have valued it´s relaxed and free atmosphere.

LOCATION
Haihatus is located in a rural community called Joutsa. The distance from Helsinki to Joutsa is 200 km and from the nearest city Jyväskylä 70 km. There are good daily express coach services and you´ll reach Joutsa by bus in 3 hours from Helsinki Airport. There are supermarkets, shops, flea markets, restaurants and cafes in Joutsa. Nature in Joutsa is beautiful and the seasonal change is very affective. There are forests to ramble and lakes to swim - or ski and ice skate in winter. There is also a free of charge Gym near Haihatus.

DISCIPLINES, WORK EQUIPMENT AND ASSISTANCE
Artists of all disciplines are welcome. Artists use their own materials and equipments, but there are also materials and tools for joint use. The staff assists any ways needed.

ACCOMODATION
The six private accomodation rooms are 17 – 23 m2 with one or two beds. Rooms are furnished and each of them includes a small kitchen with dishware. WC's and showers are located in the joint rooms. Three cats and one dog live in the house, which might the allergic ones be good to be aware of.

STUDIOS AND JOINT SPACES
There are six 10 - 60 m²joint studios and workshops, a kitchen-living room, sauna, gallery house and house for art happenings etc.

FEES
one month residency in a single accomodation room costs normally 650 €, double bed room 975€/couple. Residents´ short term guests are charged 10 €/ night/ in the resident´s room or 20€/night in a private room. The payments are non-refundable in case of cancellation or residency interruption. Travel, food and other living costs pay the artists themselves.

EXPECTATIONS AND POSSIBILITIES
Each applicant is personally responsible for ensuring that all necessary travel, health, personal property, and other insurance policies as well as travel documents are up to date. Artists have the possibility to arrange workshops and happenings to present their art during the residency. They can also participate the Haihatus International group exhibitions held yearly in the Haihatus exhibition house.
