Call-For-Entries: Cones & Rods


Whitdel Arts is currently accepting submissions for Cones & Rods, to be held at Whitdel Arts in Summer 2018.  Cones & Rods is an exhibition about the act of seeing and perception. Touching on formal elements such as color theory and Op Art, we will explore the visual effects created within works of art including, but not limited to: pattern, repetition, design, composition, Gestalt psychology and all forms of optical razzle dazzle that will make the cones and rods in our eyes forget which way is up.   


Exhibition dates: June 29 - July 27th, 2018   Reception: Friday, June 29th, 7-10pm


Criteria: All Media.  Work must have been created within the last 3 years.


Entry Fee:  $15 for non-members.  Free for members of Whitdel Arts.  A $24 annual Whitdel Arts membership can be purchased through PayPal at: http://www.whitdelarts.com/membership/">www.whitdelarts.com/membership/.


Submissions:   All entries must be submitted via email.  No mailed in entries, slides or CDs will be accepted.  Entries can be submitted to conesandrods@whitdelarts.com


Submission Deadline: June 10 2018  11:59pm.


Interested in submitting?  Just follow these steps!:


1. Gather and format your artwork images.


Each artist can submit up to 3 separate works, with 1 overall jpg image for each work and 1 detail image for each work, if necessary.  Include each image as an attachment to the submission email.  Images must be in:


jpeg format, at least 150 dpi resolution, No more than 2 mb


Longest dimension should be at 1000 pixels (maximum)


Name each image as follows: lastname_firstinitial_entrynumber.jpg (example: king_j_01.jpg, king_j_02.jpg)   For detail images, name the image as follows: lastname_firstinitial_entrynumber_detail.jpg (example: king_j_01_detail.jpg)




2.  Put together a slide list:


A corresponding slide list in .doc or .docx format must be attached to the submission email.         Please include:


Entry number, Artist’s name, Title, Medium, Date, Dimensions, Price  


      (Example:  01 – Jamie King, Self-Portrait, serigraph, 2018, 18” x 24”, $200.00)


If work is not for sale, please indicate NFS.  If no price is labeled for an artwork, it will be presumed NFS.




3.  Write an artist statement:


We need to know how your work fits into the theme of the show!  Please ensure your statement is:


in .doc or .docx format, no more than 250 words.  


Describes how your work fits into the theme of the exhibition you are submitting to.




4. Pay the entry fee:


As a non-profit organization completely run by volunteers, entry fees really help us keep the gallery running!  Entry fees are free for current members of Whitdel Arts, and $15.00 for non-members. Annual memberships ($24.00) and entry fees can by paid via PayPal here: http://www.whitdelarts.com/membership/">whitdelarts.com/membership/


If your name or email address associated with your PayPal payment differs than the name or  email address you use for your submission, please let us know.


Unpaid entries will not be juried.


5.  Send us all your submission materials:


Attach your artwork images, slide list, and artist statement to your submission email and send it to conesandrods@whitdelarts.com .  If your name or email address associated with your PayPal payment differs than the name or  email address you use for your submission, please let us know in your email.


Submissions of images and/or proposals must be received by no later than June 10th 2018


Artists will be notified of jurying results no later than June 15th via email.
