The Nomad Curator is an art professional, an educator, an institution and a woman - all together. She founded an art collective in Brazil in 2008 and has been working around the world for the past years. Latest projects include art and educational programs with Palestinian and Syrian refugees (Beirut, Beqaa Valley, Damascus and Miniara), curated exhibitions in Venice and Islamabad, an art program in the Brooklyn Children's Museum (New York) and a workshop for Azerbaijani artists (Baku).
Now based in Cairo, and with the collaboration of local art institutions, we together offer creatives the chance to be part of an international art residency.

The residency welcomes artists and researchers from all kinds of practices and we are specially interested in contemporary art and less traditional outcomes.

The theme question of this residency is: "How would you vision a world without borders?"
The applicants are invited to be imaginative and creative in order to propose a reality with inexistent territories and free mobility. How would that look like? Would we have rules? What? How? Nomadism, diaspora, migration and immigration can be central words, but we encourage the participants to think in innovative, ludic and poetic ways.

Residency lenght: from 2 to 4 weeks (longer periods can be arranged if justified)
Residency period: May/2018
Residency language: English is the main one, and we also speak Portuguese, Spanish, Italian, Arabic and a bit of French :)
Grants: The Nomad Curator is a non-profit project and it is not currently offering grants, but we are happy to write you letters of recommendation

The applicant will be guided and have the support of The Nomad Curator during her/his weeks of stay. A large community of creators living in Cairo are also glad to dialogue and exchange ideas.

We uphold collective conversations and meeting with local artists in order to develop the concept and get inspiration for the final pieces.
Every participant leaves a record of her/his practice and gives a public talk to the local community about her/his career and in loco experience at the end of the residency.
