Application Deadline: April 1, 2018 (11:59PM)
Residency Dates: July 1 - December 31, 2018

About the Trestle Artist Residency:
This residency is aimed at helping artists find a foothold in the art world while they develop a new body of work as an Trestle Art Space Member. Residents receive a 10% discount on the TAS Membership while getting additional support of 6 months advisory with Jason Stopa or Christina Kelly. Residents are also given the opportunity to exhibit their work at Trestle. Participants receive all benefits of a http://brooklynartspace.org/open-studio/" target="_blank">Trestle Art Space Membership as well as monthly group advisory meetings which include critiques, guest speakers, and studio visits. By participating in this program artists take advantage of networking and community building opportunities in addition to having access to low-cost studio space. The residents give back to the community and get a peek into the administrative end of the art world by volunteering in the gallery or studio for three hours per month. All artists are invited to apply. Applications are accepted twice each year.

Who this residency is ideal for:
1. Artists developing a new body of work
2. Artists entering or re-entering the art world
3. Artists who have graduated with a BFA or MFA within the past two years (note: this residency is open to all artists, Bachelors/Masters degrees are not required).

Residency Exhibition Guest Curator:

Part of the Trestle Artist Residency program is the option to participate in an end of year Residency Exhibition with rotating prominent guest curators. The guest curator for the upcoming residency cycle will be https://www.brooklynmuseum.org/about/curatorial_staff/hermo" target="_blank">Carmen Hermo, an assistant curator at the Brooklyn Museum. Incoming residents will have the opportunity to meet with her and show her their work before the exhibition.

About Carmen Hermo:

Hermo joined the Elizabeth A. Sackler Center for Feminist Art’s curatorial team as Assistant Curator in June 2016. She is organizing and co-curating several of the initiatives and exhibitions celebrating the upcoming 10th anniversary of the Sackler Center, A Year of Yes: Reimagining Feminism at the Brooklyn Museum.

Previously, she was Assistant Curator for Collections at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum (2010–16), where she served on the museum’s Young Collectors Council acquisition committee devoted to acquiring and supporting the work of emerging artists. While there, she researched and promoted the Guggenheim’s permanent collection, overseeing the Collection Online and the outgoing loans program, and worked on acquisitions, collection management, and special projects. She co-curated the contemporary collection exhibitions Now’s the Time: Recent Acquisitions (2012–13) and Storylines: Contemporary Art at the Guggenheim (2015).
