The ideal candidate for our Featured ARC Residency is a self-motivated individual able to work well independently and within a community. Residents are selected based on the quality of their work, commitment to their practice, and ability to interact positively with the community at large. Selected artists will exemplify our diverse mission & goals with workshops, lectures, community partnerships and exhibitions that broaden and expand the spectrum of art in Chattanooga. 


 


Disciplines, work equipment and assistance


Open to artists working in any discipline. Access to some basic wood and metal working tools are available, and our resources can provide working with most any medium. Some limited assistance is available if needed.



Duration of residency


Artists live and work in Chattanooga, TN, for the month of June leading up to an opening reception for their newly created exhibition. Approximately 31-33 days depending.


 


Accommodation


Featured Artists receive their own private room with a queen sized bed, dresser, and small closet, just 5 miles from downtown and 8 miles from the gallery/studio. 


 


Studio/workspace


Studio/workspace will vary depending on the artist's proposed project and specific facility needs. Some local resources we have access to for the artist include the 4th Floor Maker Lab, Scenic City Clay Arts, Reify, and the ChattLab Maker Space. 


 


Fees and support


$25 application fee. Selected artist receives the following at no cost:


 


-Lodging for a month


-Studio space for a month


-Gallery exhibition


-Documentation & Mini Documentary featured on our website


-Opportunities for press, interviews, studio visits, networking


-Stipend/Honorarium (if funding allows)


-In-kind services & discounts from local businesses


 


Expectations towards the artist


Artists will need to provide the following:


 


-Supplies/Materials/Special Tools


-Food/Travel/Other living costs 


-Donation of a work of art to ARC


-Exhibition of new work


-Opening reception lecture
-Community Workshop
