CALL TO ARTISTS: “Mayjoring in Art; Higher Learning” is a juried exhibition with the mission of celebrating the creativity and ingenuity of emerging young artists from colleges and universities around Texas. Eligible applicants must be currently enrolled in an institution of higher learning or have graduated with in the last 6 months. We are seeking quality work with originality in all mediums including oils, acrylics, pastels, watercolors, prints, drawings, sculpture, fiber art, mixed media, installation, photography, video art, and digital art with no size restrictions. This year's juror is Daniel Blagg.
PRIZE:
· Two students will be selected to have a two person exhibition in one of our galleries during Fall Gallery Night 2018. Fall Gallery Night is an event that occurs once a year during September. It is arguably our most popular opening of year were we anticipate more than 3000 visitors in a single night.
ABOUT THE JUROR: Daniel Blagg’s latest work includes his stylistically flat and dilapidated representational scenes of what were once gleaming signs of commercialism rendered with an abundance of metaphorical comments on all aspects of contemporary society. The Neon Museum in Las Vegas is a repository for the iconic neon signage that made the city famous and has been the subject matter of Daniel Blagg’s paintings for years.
The Texas native has been a fixture in the Fort Worth art scene for over four decades. His work has received awards from Preservation is the Art of the City and the Hunting Prize and his work is included in the collections of Chase Bank, Fidelity Investments, The Grace Museum, Abilene, TX, Museum of the Southwest, Midland, TX, and the Old Jail House Arts Center, Albany, TX. His public art includes the DFW Terminal D Project and the Worthington Hotel in Fort Worth, TX.
ABOUT FWCAC: Located at 1300 Gendy Street, the FWCAC is part of the most architecturally significant museum districts in the United States. The striking modern Herbert Bayer building (with a later O’Neil Ford addition) opened to the public in 1954 as home to one of the most prestigious and oldest collecting organizations in the state of Texas, the Modern Museum of Fort Worth. When, in 2002, the Modern moved down the street, the Fort Worth Community Arts Center opened. The building has exhibited world class art and supported the performing arts for more than half a century. The Arts Council manages the FWCAC, provides leadership and funding to local arts organizations through our competitive Grants Program and administers the Fort Worth Public Art program.
SUBMISSION: Work will be juried from images submitted only through the gallery’s online submission. $20 submission fee for up to five pieces. Images must be JPEGs with minimum width/height of 800 pixels, maximum size as 3MB. Make sure the file name corresponds with the title of the work and do not use spaces or special characters (!@$, etc) in the image file names. Video and audio files can be submitted through links. FWCAC reserves the right to reject inaccurately represented work, or incomplete submission.
PRESENTATION: Work must be suitably framed (or sides cleanly finished or painted) and ready for hanging. D-rings should be used for heavy works, wires for works under 5lbs. Drawings, prints, watercolors and pastels on paper must be under Plexiglass.
SALES: All work will be for sale unless the artist informs the gallery to the contrary. 25% of proceeds from sales will go to FWCAC and the remainder to the artists.
RECEIVING: Hand-delivered work must arrive April 29, 2018. Substitutions and late arriving work will not be exhibited. Work must remain for the duration of exhibition.
DEADLINE: All applications must be submitted before midnight (CMT) on April 1, 2018. FWCAC will notify accepted applicants only by April 15, 2018.
REMOVAL: All hand delivered work must be picked up from gallery on May 27, 2018 between 9:00am – 5:00pm. Works not removed on these days will be placed in storage and released at gallery’s convenience.

LIABILITY: This document represents a contract between the Fort Worth Community Arts Center and the person(s) named on this document. Acceptance of this contract is a specific acceptance of the terms listed. Objects exhibited in the FWCAC will be given great care. Unless the artist wishes to provide his/her own insurance coverage, the FWCAC will insure all exhibitions under its existing insurance policy, which covers up to $500,000, against all risks of physical loss or damage while on the premises during the period of the exhibition. If the exhibitor(s) wish to provide his/her own insurance, such actions constitute the release of the FWCAC from any liability in connection with the exhibition. Coverage is not authorized past the exhibition and artwork may not be stored at the FWCAC unless prior arrangements have been made. The FWCAC allows visitors to photograph works of art. Artists are required to contribute 25% from work sold in the exhibition. By submitting your artwork, you are agreeing to the terms above.
