Artists and other creative practitioners are encouraged to apply with ideas for projects that expand their practice beyond its traditional boundaries. The Fellowship for Utopian Practice is a process-based fellowship that provides an opportunity for experimentation with new forms of civic and social engagement. We are looking for highly interactive projects that engage the public and push the boundaries of how art can exist in the world. The Fellows will have a year long tenure that begins in the Spring 2018 and will receive logistical, institutional and financial support. Begun in 2012, the Fellowship has supported projects that explore many different subjects, such as: colonialism’s effect on the relationship between Dominicans and Haitians, the historic practice of redlining through labyrinth walks, creating solidarity with incarcerated individuals through choreography, and cohabitation with plants in the urban environment, and more!
