One of the longest-running, artist-founded spaces in the country, 1708 Gallery's mission is to present exceptional new art. 1708 Gallery is committed to providing opportunities for artistic innovation for emerging and established artists and to expanding the understanding and appreciation of new art for the public. 1708 has been recognized for its excellent programs with local recognition: a two-time winner of the Teresa Pollak Award for Arts Innovator; “Best Independent Gallery” by Style Weekly readers; and Best Art Event, for InLight, by Virginia Living. 1708’s exhibitions and programs have been recognized nationally by prestigious grantors like the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, Foundation for Contemporary Art and the National Endowment for the Arts.
