The rabbit hole opens “the hatch” for a unique residency opportunity, commencing June 1: Barcelona.

Spend 3 months in the magical loft / home of the rabbit hole, burrowed in one of Barcelona’s most beautiful and inspiring quarters, El Borne.

Hop into Barcelona’s creative scenes, encounter some of the city’s fascinating personalities, and immerse in the waves of the city and the seas.

Philosophy of the rabbit hole: 


The rabbit hole seeks to stimulate new ideas about the self and the other, and to challenge culturally constructed limits and borders.  Under careful advisory from Georgetown University, Bezalel Academy of Arts and the MIT Senselab, the program bases its principles on deconstruction, and the reinvention of rituals and forms. We also work with http://teatrodelossentidos.com/">Teatro De Los Sentidos in Barcelona, an immersive theatre company that creates experiences deconstructing our pre-supposed sensory mapping. Discovering the magical lens across reality is at the essence of our approach.



The hatch: 

“The hatch” has been set up as a contemplative encounter and reflective residency focusing on independent research. Rather than public happenings similar to our previous residencies, this is specific to the intimacy of a home environment.

The space, theatrically designed, is a playground to hold salons, dinner parties and a final open day, should the artist choose to do so.

The selected hatch resident will work with the rabbit hole’s founder Samina Virani to create a structure for the work, develop and explore topsy turvy ideas, discover new awake spaces, and capture the mysterious and magical white feather. The resident will also have direct contacts with mentors from music, theater, dance and visual art disciplines.

We invite the curious minded who have a particular interest in unraveling processes around deconstruction through mediums such a poetry, research, theater and performance.

The Crystal Odyssey: 

As the rabbit hole gears up for its mobile residency in 2018 – the crystal odyssey – a journey across seas – we are particularly interested in those applicants with a fascination in voyaging, journeys, ports and waterways. Sacred geometry, codes, and subliminal waves.

Your work could be a direct input for next year’s project, where you will have an opportunity to design the project’s theatrical nuances with its founder, as well as disupt it entirely and take on your own angle.

In the final few weeks of the residency, the resident’s work will be communicated through our global channels: 

- The rabbit hole’s network of 2200 creatives in 56 countries.

- A digital format of the final work to be shared with our partner sites. Mediums: text, video, sound, photography.

- Open house day to showcase and present work to local communities (under applicant’s discretion)
