Submissions are open for the COMEL Award Vanna Migliorin – Contemporary Art, a unique prize in Europe, dedicated to adult artists who work in the European countries.  The competition originated in Latina, Italy, in memory of the local entrepreneur Vanna, whose most heartfelt goals were to support artists and to promote of Art.

The Award aims at promoting Contemporary Art and multiculturalism among the countries of the European continent, strengthening the link between Contemporary Art and business, enhancing the value of aluminum, a material that, besides its relevant aesthetic value, is also easily workable, extremely versatile, flexible and recyclable, establishing a vital and significant relationship between the public and the artists.

The peculiarity of the prize is that participants have to submit works in aluminum (or where this metal is prevalent) of a non-industrial format (they should be max 150x150x150 cm). The theme of this edition is the Sinuosity, to be declined freely following the artist’s inspiration.

One of the challenges could be the one to break down the boundaries and reach all the countries that make up Europe. A conscious decision that sees the desire to share the art with all the peoples of the continent. In previous editions, the range was limited to the European Union only.

Sinuosity of Aluminum is the title of the exhibition connected to the Prize, which will be held from 7 to 28 October 2017. It will show the works of thirteen artists - thirteen as the atomic number of aluminum - selected by the Jury. Among them the winner will be finally chosen and will be given 3500 euro and a chance to organize a solo exhibition at Spazio COMEL Contemporary Art gallery in the center of Latina (via Neghelli, 68, Latina, Italy).

This is a well-known Art gallery where several free exhibitions and events are held throughout the year. Among others, Spazio COMEL began to host major artists’ retrospectives. The first were Alberto Burri (2015) and Afro (2016). Events that represent an additional valuable commitment by the gallery owners, Adriano and Maria Gabriella Mazzola, who continue their mother’s ideal project.

The jury is led by the Art critic and writer Giorgio Agnisola (University Professor of Sacred Art at the Pontifical Theological Faculty of Southern Italy).

Registration is open until June 30, 2017.
