The International Studio & Curatorial Program (ISCP) announces an open call for a fully-funded four-month residency, from September 1–December 31, 2017, plus stipend ($500 per month) for an artist whose work focuses on documentary practices. The selected resident will be expected to research, develop and produce at least one project on one or more of the following issues: fact and fiction, the representation of the real, and ethics and the documentary. This work will be included in an ISCP exhibition in October 2017.

Applications will be accepted from visual artists in all disciplines who are based and eligible to work in the United States. The residency program includes 24-hour access to a private furnished studio space, regular studio visits from Visiting Critics; Field Trips to museums, galleries and other cultural venues; and participation in Artist Talks. In addition, residents have the opportunity to have a studio assistant and develop projects in the public realm with the support of ISCP staff. Residents become part of a growing network of international artists and curators who are ISCP alumni. An ISCP residency has often led to critical advancement in the practice of the artist and curators in residence.

APPLICATION PROCESS: For consideration for a 2017 NEA Documentary Practices Residency at ISCP, please submit the following to application@iscp-nyc.org by April 15, 2017 indicating “NEA Residency” in the subject line:

Applicants must provide the following information: name, date of birth, place of birth, mailing address, telephone number, and email address in the Application Form (above). You may also indicate your gender, and ethnicity, though this is optional.

ELIGIBILITY: Visual artists in all disciplines are invited to apply. Applicants must be eligible to work in the United States citizens, and they may not be ISCP alumni or residents in another studio program at the same time as the NEA Residency.

SELECTION: The selection committee reviews applications based on quality, originality and artistic merit. Other consideration factors are: the potential impact of the residency on the applicant, the applicant's past accomplishments, and preparedness to undertake the residency. Studio visits/interviews with finalists will be held by the selection committee.

NOTIFICATION: Artists will be notified by May 12, 2017 for the NEA Residency.

Note: incomplete applications will not be reviewed. Please submit your application in a single PDF no larger than 10 mb.
