Chicago Industrial Arts & Design Center (CIADC) is now accepting submissions for 99/1 – an open showcase of speculative designs for new public artworks. Submission form: https://www.ciadc.org/open-call-for-entry">ciadc.org/open-call-for-entry

All completed submissions will be included in the exhibition.

What is your ideal public work, where would it be in the city, and why? The history of sited artwork commissioned through the percent-for-art ordinance in Chicago has produced some of the city’s most recognizable icons. For 99/1 CIADC asks artists and designers to draft plans for new works designed outside of the restrictions that have determined public art in Chicago to date – commemorating histories and locations in the city not typically recognized in municipal and corporate installations, unbound from the budgetary restraint that allocates a fraction of our overall resources to creative work.

Each submission should include a primary image of the proposed artwork, a location/site within the city of Chicago that the work was designed for, and a work statement. Images will be printed on 8.5 by 11 inch (215.9 mm x 279.4 mm) letter paper in black and white on a LaserJet printer, and displayed in the gallery space along with selected original drawings, models, and 3D renderings.
