Artist Residencies in Key West, Florida
The Studios of Key West offers up to 35 juried one-month residencies per year to working artists and writers from around the world. Residencies are awarded to visual artists, writers, composers, performers, and interdisciplinary artists. There is no fee for the residency, but a $40 application fee applies.
Key West is an island community, two miles by four miles wide, at the very end of the road. Our creative campus includes a newly renovated art deco building with exhibition space, classrooms and 9 studios (utilized by local artists). Nearby, a lush sculpture garden surrounded by 2 cottages and apartments with combined live/work spaces house our visiting Artists in Residence. At this time, we are not able to offer separate work studios to artists. In order to help us make your stay conducive to good work as possible, you must describe as clearly as possible what your space and living requirements/limitations will be when applying.
Residencies are almost a full month, and run from the 16th of the month through the 14th of the next. When applying, artists select one of the three Residency Periods on offer: Period 1: Oct 2017 thru Jan 2018, Period 2: Feb 2018 thru Apr 2018, Period 3: May 2018 thru Aug 2018.
Resident artists are requested to connect with the Key West community in the form of a class, workshop, reading, performance or special project, to be agreed upon by the artist and The Studios. These are given in exchange for their residency. The acceptance of a program depends on many factors, and program proposals may not be scheduled even if an artist is granted a residency.
Our ongoing programming includes an extensive workshop season, concert and performance schedule, free lectures, exhibitions, innovative arts projects, and cultural advancement ideas.
