Illegal Fashion

 —Manifesto 2017 @ WhiteBox—

“Poor Mexico, so far from God, so close to the United States.” – Porfirio Diaz

Our existence is not a crime. We represent the new unapologetic, loud, bicultural, creative Illegal Fashion Force. We maintain our present culture reigning with pride in this new social movement.

We design and manufacture political fashion. What we wear is political. What we think is political. You make us political.

We are existential, poetic, and mad for freedom. We wear who we are. We wear clothing that says more, not less. We wear clothing that says, “Look at me—beautiful, illegal. Stop ignoring us.”

We demand our existence be legalized. We are millions. Art like us is migrant, unstoppable as water. We stopped sewing your clothing, cleaning your homes, walking your dogs. We are the new kids on the block, makers and innovators.

You exploited us and now you must legalize us.
