OVERVIEW


British artist and international humanitarian communications specialist, Salma Zulfiqar, will hold an exploratory creative workshop on the relationship between Migration and the SEAS.


Artists will identify strands they would like to document through art  and will be invited to create artwork in the form of paintings, films, videos or photography on the issue of  Migration and the Seas.


Participants will brainstorm and discuss current issues related to Migration and the SEAS .         What Migration means to all artists taking part and how this can be interpreted into different forms of artwork through a creative storyboarding process. The creative sessions will also explore the impact art can have in raising awareness of an issue such as migration and also how art as a whole can help build prosperous & tolerant societies around the world.


TIME : full Spring , May  3th  to 9th 2017


VENUE : Ionion Center for the Arts and Culture


LOCATION : Greek Island Kefalonia


ELIGIBILITY: Open to artists & activists , all disciplines with focus to Film, Photography, Painting

PROGRAM


 Day 1. The workshop will begin with an introduction and debate of how artwork has been used to discuss the issue of migration. The Participants will lay the foundations to create their own works and learn more about how art can be used to promote progress in countries .


 Days 2- 3-  Exploration of the island by the participants .The participants will lay the foundations to create their own works and learn more about how art can be used to promote progress in countries . The exploration of the Island will  give the inspiration to continue working on the artwork and the SEA(S).


Days  4-5-6  The  artists are invited to create  and present artworks, past or created in the island, with focus in the form of paintings , films, video art  or photography on the issue of Migration and the Seas.


Exhibition  & presentation of works will take place in the end of the workshop.


Artists are invited to bring their own materials.


OUTCOME


The workshop will invite artists to explore on common ground and exhibit/present  the importance of the  relationship between  the SEAS and the creation of peaceful and prosperous societies around the World.

Biography


Salma Zulfiqar's work has been influenced by her travels around the world to countries such as Pakistan, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, India, Iran, Yemen, Syria, Lebanon, Egypt, Kenya, Cameroon, Chad, Cuba, Brazil and Barcelona. She has explored the theme of nature and climate change thorough an abstract form. Her artwork has been exhibited in London, Birmingham, Paris, Dubai and Kabul.


Salma Zulfiqar is also an advisor for communications for the United Nations

In all cases is required the follow information in word document :full name of the applicant  , postal address, phone, country , email address, web site(if available), profession, discipline , short statement of the applicant no longer than 200 words , short cv no longer than 200 words.                                                                                                 In case of group  /collective project( group -school- organization) is required title of the group -school- organization, full name & contact details of the  person representing OR leading  the group  , postal address, phone, country , email address, web site(if available) of the group -school- organization  , short  statement no longer than 200 words , short cv of every group member no longer than 200 words.


Every  submission   requires an application/entry fee  of euro 30,  non-refundable.


Each Application toward been considered must be completed including the follow:


-Short submission notice -3 lines- in word document  addressed via email to the address  info@ionionartscenter.gr


– The transfer confirm of the entry fee payment, Euro  30 for every separate application.


– CV/Biography of the participant  or CV/Biography  for each of the group members in case of group project(text  in word document non exceeding the 200 words)


– A short statement (text in word document not exceeding  the 200 words,  short description of the  expectations of the participant).

GRANTS  INFO 


All the submissions/ completed participations on the program are eligible for the year Grants 2017 of the Ionion Center for the Arts and Culture as follow:


A.           Grants connected to the residency of the year program : Starting from 1000 up to 30.000euro.


B.           Grants connected to the SEA(S) FORUM: Starting from 2000 up to 50.000euro  per year(in case of formal participation in the SEA(S)2017).


-              All the submissions will be followed  by  Certificate of Participation
