Call for International Artist-in-Residence Program 2017 


 


Jeju Culture and Art Foundation calls for applications from the artists for international artist-in-residence program 2017. This program is open to international artists/curators/researchers working in visual arts(contemporary art). This is the first residency program run by JCAF in Jeju Island, South Korea. The residency studio (work place) is located in the central area of old town called IAGOL old street across the HANJIGOL, near byhttps://goo.gl/maps/Fd5tKCDyx8S2" target="_blank"> Jeju Gwandeokjeong Pavilion and Jeju Mokgwana - Former Jeju Government Office: https://goo.gl/maps/Fd5tKCDyx8S2" target="_blank">https://goo.gl/maps/Fd5tKCDyx8S2) The selected artists will be a part of the Urban Renewal Project supported by Jeju Province's government. The program will be in a form of different type of exhibitions, education program, community project and Art-lab(mix-matching of Art and Jeju's unique History, Mythology, Sociology, Science and Nature(research based) as an out-come.


 


■ Application Period: 14th November ~ 16th December, 2016


  Application Deadline: 24:00 in Korean time 16 December, 2016


 


■ Duration of Residency: 3 months


● Options of duration that applicants can select                                                                          


- 1st term:  1 April ~ 30 June, 2017 (1 artist/team) 


- 2nd term:  1 July ~ 30 September, 2017 (1 artist/team) 


- 3rd term:  1 October ~ 31 December, 2017 (1 artist/team) 


 


※ Duration of the stay may be extended based on the internal review of the works created by artists-in-residence for three months after you join in the program. As the space is limited, the center will select only 2 international artists/teams. Arriving date can be arranged according to the final schedule. 


 


■ Nationality: All regions of the world (except Korea) 


■ Eligibility:  


- Applicants should not be participated in other residency programs with the same period of this program.


- Proficiency in English is required (The artist should be able to explain his/her artwork) 


 


■ Benefits for Selected Artists:


- Individual accommodation during the residency period


- Individual studio for production (one studio per person/per team, in principle) 


- A roundtrip airplane tickets (economy-class type) per person (For group-applicants only one member of the group will be supported)


- Opportunities for exhibitions and Art-lab project, local collaboration programs. 


- Professional advising, seminars and cultural excursions with field trips.


- Partial production cost supported for exhibition or project by the residency program.


- Liberal use of the Art Lab, workspace, equipment room and etc.


 


■ Artists’ Responsibilities

- Health and casualty insurance


* Selected artists should submit a copy of insurance to our team. Artists can be rejected without insurance


-Transportation, meals and other living expenses


 


 ■ Application information 


● Please submit: 


1. A completed application form 


2. CV or résumé including exhibitions, projects, residency, awards and education experiences (less than 2 pages).


3. Portfolio: 


- Up to 20 works in the form of digital files (image in .jpg, .pdf format/ video or sound in .avi, .mp4 format). 


- For video or sound works, the duration of each file should be within 5min. To submit video works, also you can use external websites. (YouTube or Vimeo is acceptable). Then insert the relevant URLs into your Portfolio form. 


4. Artist statement including description of portfolio works (title, year, medium, size, and 2~3 sentences of brief description) 


5. Preplan including the anticipated outcome during the residency period 


6. Letter of Recommendation 


- Contact information of the recommender (e.g. email address, phone number) should be included 


7. A copy of the applicant’s passport

● By post: Send a CD, DVD or USB containing digital files of all materials via mail to the address below by traceable mailing method (arrived by 16 December) 


- Please include all materials in one CD/DVD/USB

 ■ Selection


A screening committee reviews and evaluates applications. The results will be informed no later than the end of January, 2017.


 


■ Others                                                             


a) The incomplete and insufficient provision of information in the submitted documents may be subject to disadvantages in the screening procedure. b) The received documents will not be returned, and if false information is revealed, the appointment decision of an artist is in question will be canceled.
