Artist Résumé

See format details below for medium/mounting specifications

Design Challenge & Format:

Design a CONTEMPORARY INTERPRETATION OF A SAILOR'S VALENTINE in the shape of an octagon. Octagon must be 46" in width with a border of 5 1/2" on each side; in other words, your final piece should be a 46" wide octagon within a 57" x 57" square.

Your work should be on paper or canvas (thick, durable paper recommended), and able to be mounted to wood board. Selected works should be mounted to pine, birch, or comparable board and cut to size. 1" thickness or more recommended. (Standard wood is available at Lowes, Home Depot or other venues.) It does not need to be mounted at the time of submission; if selected, it must be mounted for exhibition.

Works do not need to be wired for hanging. We will be drilling holes into the back of the pieces for nails. Keep this in mind when you choose your medium.

IMPORTANT: YOUR DESIGN SHOULD NOT LOOK LIKE A HISTORICAL SAILOR'S VALENTINE. INTERPRETATIONS THAT SHOW THE GREATEST AMOUNT OF INNOVATION, STYLISTIC ORIGINALITY AND A CONTEMPORARY SENSIBILITY WILL BE MOST VALUED.
