Description of residency program

From March 26th to April 16th, this artist residency offers up to 5 arts practitioners the chance to live and work in the heart of an old Moroccan medina in Northern Morocco.  Spend 3 weeks exploring and working in a culture steeped in a rich history, surrounded by ancient living and yet a hairsbreadth away from modernity. The brevity of this residency means that investigation and experimentation weigh as much as production.

The Supporting Organization

Culture Vultures is an artist-led arts and culture organization set up some 8 years ago by British visual artist Jess Stephens and co-run by local and international, pro-active staff.   With a wide-ranging portfolio of arts projects and a broad range of solid, local connections, the organization competently supports and assists artists and their projects to engage with the community and partake in cross-cultural dialogue to feed their practice.

Duration of residency – 3 weeks.   26th March – 16th April 2017

Disciplines –  All disciplines are encouraged to apply. The definition of artist is broad.

Work equipment and assistance - Working spaces at Dar Attamani, the residence, are available for artists working in ‘dry’ mediums.  The house has many areas for contemplation and creation, including a roof terrace, a cool garden, salon areas and working tables.

Temporary individual studios spaces are rented in the old medina for artists upon request. They are simple, light and in the heart of the medina. These come at a marginal extra cost of 70 euros.
