http://ashkalalwan.org/programs_tax/video-works/">Video Works is a development program, a support grant, and a screening platform initiated by http://ashkalalwan.org/">Ashkal Alwan in 2006 to provide a sustainable structure for video production by artists and filmmakers in Lebanon.

Every year in September, the Video Works jury selects six to ten projects. Selected Artists are given a grant of up to $5,000 to produce a video, and are followed up on by a jury member. The videos are screened in June.

Submission Guidelines & Conditions

Submission deadline: September 1st, 2016

Only submissions from artists residing in Lebanon will be considered. Selected artists are expected to be living in Lebanon during the production period (October 2016 to June 2017).

Video Works grants are geared toward artists and filmmakers at an early stage of their video and/or film practice. Applicants may submit only one project per edition of Video Works. Priority is reserved for artists who have not previously received a Video Works grant.

Selected artists are expected to complete the project they have submitted in their application and cannot chose to produce another video.

Video Works 2017 is open to all genres of video and non-feature-length film (including experimental video, fiction & documentary), provided that the produced works can be screened in a single-channel version.

Video Works grants are conceived to support low- to medium-budget projects. Applicants whose project requires a budget higher than USD $5,000 should be able to secure additional sources of funding, and should indicate this in their proposal.

Applicants will be notified of results by September 30th, 2016.

The first draft of the video must be completed no later than March 15th, 2017. Selected projects must be completed (last version) no later than May 15th, 2017.

Ashkal Alwan will not be responsible for facilitating the production process or the securing of filming permits. Selected artists are responsible to secure a filming permit from the General Security if they wish to shoot in Lebanon. The artist will be responsible of covering the fees (a filming permit costs between LBP 60,000 and LBP 100,000).

Selected artists might be required to export their video into DCP at their own costs. They should also have English and/or Arabic subtitles.

Ashkal Alwan will confirm receipt of all application; if you have not received confirmation within a week of sending, please notify Ashkal Alwan.

Please note that Ashkal Alwan is closed from August 5th to August 22nd, 2016. All enquiries about Video Works should be made before or after this period.
