Our residency program provides creative artists across disciplines, with both emerging and established careers, with the opportunity to create work in a new context, to establish professional contacts and standards and to engage with the community.
We focus on the interaction between the artists and the territory and/or its inhabitants. We strongly believe in the importance of networks, connections, exchanges. We also believe in the power of art to overcome boundaries and differences. We encourage “contamination” - cultural contamination, artistic contamination - respecting diversity. This is why we ask artists to work on a project that creates an interaction with the inhabitants and/or the territory. Artists have opportunities to interact with locals and to visit the surroundings. At the end of the residency works are exhibited to the community.
We accept artists of different disciplines: visual arts (painting, drawing, photography, installation art, land art, sculpture), literary arts (fiction, poetry, script writing), performing arts (dancing, music, drama), research, architecture, design. We encourage emerging artists, as well as established artists, to apply.
Sabinarti also welcomes international groups of artists already involved in a joint project to work together (9 people max.).
Facilities
Artists are hosted at “Palazzo del Gatto”, in the medieval village of Casaprota, (Sabine region, in the centre of Italy). They have access to studio and working spaces, located inside the Palazzo and in the large garden with a fantastic inspirational landscape.
Inside the Palazzo, there are four bedrooms, single and double, and three ½ bathrooms, a kitchen, a dining room, two living rooms, the original storeroom (now a multifunctional space and study hall), and a wine cavern. Residents lodge in single rooms or if coming as a couple in double rooms.
